Diet and hair loss.Changes to make in your diet

How including the various sources of vitamins, listed below,in your diet and hair loss can be avoided

There are many reasons that can cause an increase in hair shedding, or temporary hair loss . Some of these reasons include genes, hormones, age, medications, poor nutrition and diet, chemotherapy, radiation treatment, infections, stress, chemicals used for certain hairstyles, and rapid weight loss.

Nutritional deficiencies, that can be corrected by a proper diet, can contribute to increased hair shedding by weakening hair shafts that cause breakage to the hair and slow regrowth. Vitamin A, certain B vitamins, the vitamin biotin, vitamin C, copper, iron, zinc, protein, and water are the principal nutrients that are involved in reducing nutritional deficiency.

Including Vitamin A in your diet and hair loss problem can be reduced
It is vital to take enough of vitamin A in order to promote the growth and health of cells and tissues throughout the body, including the hair and scalp. Prolonged vitamin A deficiency can lead to hair loss and dandruff caused by the buildup of cellular debris in the hair follicles. The body actually gets vitamin A in two ways: from plant sources in the form of carotenoids, such as beta carotene, that convert to vitamin A in the body. These sources include red, yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables as well as some dark green leafy vegetables and also from animals in the form of:

  • liver
  • fish oil
  • eggs
  • fortified milk And other foods that are fortified with vitamin A

Vitamin B6, folic acid and vitamin B12 are essential to the normal formation of red blood cells as they carry oxygen from the lungs to tissues in the body, including the hair

Vitamin B6 are protein-rich foods such as and the best sources are:

  • chicken
  • fish
  • pork
  • liver
  • kidney
  • soybeans Whole grains, legumes, nuts and cereals also contain reasonable amounts.

Adding Biotin in your diet and hair loss can be controlled
In fact biotin deficiency is rare for people who eat a healthy diet. Apart from select food sources, biotin is also manufactured by guts bacteria in our intestines. Hair loss that are caused by biotin deficiency is ,however, rare.

    Vitamin C
Deficiency of vitamin c can cause the hair to be susceptible to problematic breaking and splitting. This normally only occurs with severe deficiency and can be reversed with an increase intake of such vitamin. Vitamin C is very important in producing collagen which is a connective tissue that gives structure by holding tissues in the body together, such as the tissue in hair.

The presence of Copper in your diet and hair loss is greatly reduced
Copper is a trace mineral that is important for the formation of hemoglobin and its presence is required to carry oxygen in red blood cells. Hemoglobin is needed for the maintenance of an adequate supply of blood to the hair shaft. A lack of copper in the diet can weaken the hair shaft and cause increased hair shedding.

Copper can be obtained mainly from the following sources:

  • liver
  • seafood
  • seeds
  • nuts

    Iron
Iron’s main job is to carry oxygen in the hemoglobin of red blood cells. A lack of iron can lead to a condition called anemia and can result to an increase hair shedding or possible hair loss.

    Zinc
Hair loss and dandruff are both conditions associated with zinc deficiency. It is a mineral that promotes cell reproduction and tissue growth and repair. Other functions of zinc is the maintenance of the oil-secreting glands attached to hair follicles.

    Protein
Every cell in the body needs protein, including the cells needed in normal hair growth. Without adequate intake of protein, the body cannot efficiently produce new hair so as to replace the hair that has shed. We can get protein from:

  • meat
  • poultry
  • fish
  • eggs
  • milk
  • cheese
  • yogurt
  • soy products

    Water
As you know water is one of the most important nutrients essential for life. Proper hydration is a very important factor in promoting good health and in healthy hair.

So now you are aware that nutritional deficiencies can be a reason for increased hair shedding or temporary hair loss. Eating disorders such as anorexia may contribute to poor nutrition and as a side effect cause hair loss. Anorexia can cause severe malnutrition and cause a high proportion of hair follicles to stop their growth cycle. These hairs shed and the body is not equipped nutritionally to grow back new ones even after several months. Normal hair growth will return only with adequate nutrition intake.

Another reason for accelerated hair shedding may be caused by rapid weight loss. Losing weight too quickly and/or participating in a fad diet that is not nutritionally sound can cause imbalances in the body and cause increased hair shedding. It is recommended ,therefore,to follow a healthy weight-loss program can prevent this from happening.
